Plattsburgh’s Taylor Whitney earns Player of the Week award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Plattsburgh sophomore forward Taylor Whitney (Livonia, MI) has been named the Northeast Women's Hockey League's Player of the Week.

The honor is for games contested from Monday, Dec. 2, through Sunday, Dec. 8, and was announced by the NEWHL on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Whitney tallied three goals, including a game-winner and one on the power play to lead top seed Plattsburgh to a 2-0-0 week. 

She totaled three points on 12 shots on goal, and she blocked two shots while accruing a +3 rating. 

With her performance on the week, Whitney is now tied with teammate Annie Katonka for the most goals scored in the Northeast Women's Hockey League this season with eight. 

She began the week by scoring the game-winning goal in a 7-0 win over Potsdam on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. 

Whitney concluded her week with two goals, five shots on goal, and a +1 rating in Plattsburgh's 5-2 win at Cortland on Friday, Dec. 6. The Cardinals are in first place in the NEWHL standings.
