SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Oswego freshman forward Kyleigh Grugin (Knoxville, TN) has been selected the Northeast Women's Hockey League's Rookie of the Week.
The honor is for games contested from Monday, Nov. 18, through Sunday, Nov. 24, and was announced by the NEWHL on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Although freshmen dominate the typical rookie of the week award, any player competing in their first season of intercollegiate athletics is eligible for the honor.
Grugin scored two game-winning goals this past weekend as the Lakers swept Canton and Potsdam in a pair of NEWHL contests.
Both of Grugin's goals came via the power play, and she added an assist on the opening goal versus Canton. Her game-winner against the Kangaroos was the first of her young collegiate career.
Grugin totaled three points on two goals with a +1 rating in leading the Lakers to a 2-0 week.
Oswego defeated Canton at home 2-1 on Friday, Nov. 22 before defeating Potsdam on the road 3-1 on Saturday, Nov. 23.
